Kiryat HaMemshala

Kiryat HaMemshala (Hebrew: קריית הממשלה‎, lit. Government complex / city), also known as Kiryat Ben-Gurion, (lit. Ben-Gurion complex / city) is a complex of government buildings in the Givat Ram neighborhood of Jerusalem, Israel.

History

A short time after the establishment of the state of Israel, and as a counter reaction to the UN demand for an internationalization of Jerusalem, the Israeli cabinet, then headed by David Ben-Gurion, decided on December 1949 to transfer its official governmental institutions from Tel-Aviv to Jerusalem.For the purpose of an emplacement of its governmental institutions, an available hill on the western side of the city was picked.

The construction work began in 1950 and lasted many years. The original plans were drawn up by the architectural firms of Monio Gitay-Weinrauw and Al Mansfeld, but they were not implemented. [1].

Bank of Israel

The Bank of Israel, the central bank of Israel, is located in Kiryat HaMemshala with a branch office in Tel Aviv. The current governor is Stanley Fischer.
